You want a spa day for two in Malta, and you don't want to end up in separate rooms staring at different walls. We've tried the couples packages at every major spa on the island, and these are the ones that actually deliver.

1. Carisma Spa at the InterContinental

Best for: Couples who want the full production

Carisma does something most spas in Malta don't bother with: they actually decorate the couples room for your visit. Roses, candles, the works. It sounds like a small thing, but when you walk in and the room has been set up specifically for the two of you, it changes the feel of the whole experience. The massage itself is excellent too. We'd recommend asking for Adriene and Christopher if they're available. They work well as a pair and the communication between them is seamless, which matters more than you'd think when two therapists are working side by side.

The couples package starts from around €119 for two, which makes it one of the more accessible hotel spa packages on the island. It includes side-by-side massage in the couples suite, followed by time in the relaxation area with prosecco and tea. You can also add the hammam as an extra, and we think you should. Carisma runs the only authentic Turkish hammam in Malta. You lie on a heated marble platform while a therapist works through a salt scrub, then wraps you in olive oil soap lather. Sharing that experience together is genuinely special. The hammam adds around €55 per person on top of the couples package.

The InterContinental in St Julian's is the location you want for the hammam and the couples room. Carisma has eight locations across Malta, but not all of them offer the full couples setup. One small note: the changing rooms at this location are a little compact, but it's not something that takes away from the overall experience. The treatment itself is the star, and at this price point it's hard to argue with the value.

2. Myoka Spa at the Marriott

Best for: Couples who care most about massage quality

Myoka's reputation is built on its therapists, and the couples massage here reflects that. The hot stone option is our pick for two. It's a properly relaxing treatment where the heated stones let the therapist work deeper without extra pressure. We both nearly fell asleep during ours, which is about the highest compliment we can give a couples massage. Sessions run around 80 minutes and cost around €200 per couple.

The real bonus here is timing your visit right. The Marriott's heated indoor pool has adults-only hours between noon and 6pm, so if you book your treatment within that window you get genuinely quiet pool time afterwards. Outside those hours the pool is shared with families, which is a completely different atmosphere. The dry and wet saunas are included too. After your treatment, you're brought herbal drinks and chocolate biscuits in the relaxation lounge, which is a nice way to ease back into the day.

The Mindfulness massage package is also worth knowing about. It combines a body scrub, full massage, relaxation touch points, and a scalp massage in one session. The scalp element is sleep-inducing in the best way. We'd suggest requesting Geraldynne or Angelica when you book. Both are consistently excellent and seem to understand intuitively how to pace a couples session so you're both fully relaxed by the end.

Myoka is on the pricier end of couples options in Malta, but we think the therapist quality justifies the premium.

3. Apollo Day Spa at the Corinthia

Best for: Anniversaries and special occasions

Apollo is where we'd send you for an anniversary or a birthday. The staff here have a knack for making occasions feel genuinely special without being asked. We heard of one couple who mentioned their anniversary at booking and were surprised with an extra touch when they arrived. That kind of initiative says a lot about the team running this spa.

The couples massage runs 55 minutes and costs around €175 for two. What sets Apollo apart from most hotel spas is the package deal. Your treatment comes with access to the Corinthia's indoor and outdoor pools, sauna, and jacuzzi, so you can turn a 55-minute massage into a proper half-day out at St George's Bay. The Asian Fusion massage is worth considering if you're open to something more dynamic. It blends seven techniques including Thai, Balinese, Chinese, and Japanese, with hot compress work and reflexology, all in 45 minutes for around €80 per person.

Therapist Heru is particularly good at tailoring treatments to your specific skin and body type. He adjusts products based on what your skin needs rather than running the same routine for everyone. Receptionist Eniko makes the front-of-house experience feel genuinely welcoming. The Corinthia's setting helps too. It feels like a proper resort day, not a sneaky hotel visit. The facilities are well-maintained and the staff are warm without being overbearing.

One thing we appreciate about Apollo: the price feels fair for what you get. When you factor in the pool access, saunas, and the overall resort setting, it's genuinely good value for a couples afternoon in Malta.

4. Nataraya Day Spa in Mellieha

Best for: Couples staying in northern Malta

If you're based in Mellieha or the north of the island, Nataraya saves you the trek down to St Julian's and honestly doesn't compromise on quality. We had what might be genuinely the best massage we've had in Malta here. The therapists have a real ability to find tension spots without being told, and they check in on pressure throughout the session. It sounds basic, but most spas don't actually do this consistently.

The spa is inside the Solana Hotel and the facilities are newer than many of the St Julian's options, which shows. Everything feels clean and well-maintained. The indoor pool temperature is excellent, and there's an outdoor infinity pool with views over Mellieha town and the church. After your treatment, you're served a fresh fruit platter with herbal tea and coffee in a quiet relaxation room. It's a thoughtful touch that extends the whole experience beyond just the massage.

The chromotherapy hydrobath is available as an add-on for couples packages, combining warm water with colour light therapy. It's one of the few spas on the island that offers this. We'd recommend asking for Santina or Shierly if they're available. We nearly fell asleep during the scalp massage, which is about as strong an endorsement as we can give. Nataraya is also one of Malta's most inclusive spas. Every treatment is available regardless of gender, and their couples packages are designed for everyone.

Give them a call before booking to confirm current arrangements, as the spa's setup has shifted during hotel renovations in the past.

5. Phoenicia Spa in Floriana

Best for: Couples who want an atmosphere they'll remember

We've written about Phoenicia before and we'll say it again: the setting here is unlike anything else on the island. The spa is built underground around an exposed 16th-century Knights of St John fortification wall. It has literally been carved out of Maltese limestone and has no shortage of natural light finding its way into the venue. It won Best Spa Hotel at the International Hotel Awards 2024-2025, and when you see the space you'll understand why.

Phoenicia doesn't advertise a specific couples package, but they accommodate couples bookings for side-by-side treatments. The Himalayan salt stone massage is their signature, and having two of those booked in the same time slot is our recommendation. The spa spans 1,200 square metres across two floors, so there's plenty of space for you both. The thermal suite with pool, salt room, sauna, and steam room is complimentary with your visit, so give yourselves at least two to three hours to make the most of the facilities.

The spa sits in Floriana, right at the entrance to Valletta, making it easy to combine with lunch or dinner in the capital. Go in the morning for the quietest experience. If you can, ask for Ana or Roberta for your treatments. This is the premium end of the price scale, but for a once-in-a-trip experience with genuinely historic surroundings, we think it's worth every cent. There's simply nowhere else in Malta where you can have a massage next to a 500-year-old fortification wall.

6. HOLM Ikonika Spa in St Julian's

Best for: Getting the most facilities for your money as a couple

Ikonika at the HOLM boutique hotel packs more into a couples visit than almost anywhere else on the island. Himalayan salt room, Finnish sauna, Turkish bath, heated indoor pool, jacuzzi, ice bath, foot spa, and experience showers with water jets, aromatherapy, and light effects. All of that is accessible as part of your spa day. For a boutique hotel, the breadth of facilities genuinely surprised us.

They have dedicated couples treatment rooms and offer day spa access from around €50 per person (or around €35 per person in groups of four or more). Add a treatment like the signature Ikonika personalised massage or one of their Thalion facials, and you've got a full day sorted without spending hotel-spa prices. Day spa membership gives you full facility access from 8am to 8pm, which is a generous window for a couples day out.

We'd ask for Lani if you're after a calm, attentive massage. She really knows what she's doing. The hotel is relatively new and everything still feels fresh and well-maintained. The salt room and heated pool combination is what we enjoyed most as a pair. Spending 20 minutes in the salt room together before your massage sets the tone for the whole visit. Some of their day spa packages include prosecco and breakfast, which turns it into a proper occasion.

7. Kempinski San Lawrenz Spa in Gozo

Best for: Couples making a day trip or weekend of it

If you're willing to take the Gozo ferry, the Kempinski offers something no spa in mainland Malta can match. It houses the largest Ayurveda centre in the Mediterranean, spanning 1,700 square metres with 10 spa treatment rooms and 5 dedicated Ayurveda rooms. A qualified Ayurveda physician does a consultation before your treatment, assessing your individual constitution and tailoring the session accordingly. For couples, this means you might each receive a quite different treatment based on your body's needs, which we think is far more interesting than getting identical massages.

The Oriental hammam and signature body treatments using local Gozitan ingredients like sea salt, Gozo clay, Maltese honey, and olive oil make this feel like a genuine retreat rather than a day spa visit. The rural setting in San Lawrenz, away from the tourist strip, is part of the appeal. There's a stillness here that the St Julian's spas simply can't replicate. Two heated indoor pools, an indoor jacuzzi, and dedicated relaxation areas give you plenty of space to unwind together. In winter, the combination of the hammam and indoor spa is particularly appealing.

This is a five-star hotel spa and the prices reflect that. It works best as part of a Gozo day trip or a weekend stay rather than a quick afternoon booking. Call the concierge ahead for day spa availability as it depends on hotel occupancy and isn't always guaranteed for non-guests. Book treatments well in advance.

Which Couples Spa Is Right for You?

If budget matters most: Carisma at the InterContinental, from around €119 per couple, with a decorated couples room and optional hammam.

If massage quality is your priority: Myoka at the Marriott. Book during the noon to 6pm adults-only pool window and request a specific therapist.

If it's a special occasion: Apollo at the Corinthia. The staff go out of their way for anniversaries and birthdays without being asked.

If you're staying in the north: Nataraya in Mellieha. Outstanding therapists, a newer venue, and an infinity pool with views over the town.

If the setting matters as much as the treatment: Phoenicia in Floriana. A 16th-century fortification wall, 1,200 square metres of spa, and Valletta on your doorstep.

If you want maximum facilities: HOLM Ikonika in St Julian's. Salt room, pools, sauna, ice bath, all from around €50 per person.

If you want a proper escape: Kempinski in Gozo. Ayurveda, hammam, and rural Gozitan quiet.

One general tip: book couples treatments at least 24 to 48 hours in advance, especially during summer. Most spas can accommodate same-room requests but they need to schedule two therapists simultaneously, and popular time slots fill up quickly during the peak months from June to September.
