Best Spas in Gozo (2026 Guide)

Gozo has four spas worth your time, and they could not be more different from each other. One is a full Ayurveda medical centre inside a five-star hotel. One runs Elemis treatments overlooking the harbour. One is a small independent day spa in a quiet village. And one has a float tank in the middle of Victoria. We have been to all of them, and here is what you actually need to know.

1. Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz Spa

Best for: A proper wellness programme, not just a treatment

This is not a spa you pop into for an hour between sightseeing. The Kempinski Hotel San Lawrenz Spa houses the largest Ayurveda centre in the Mediterranean, spanning 1,700 square metres with 10 treatment rooms and 5 dedicated Ayurveda rooms. An Indian Ayurveda physician does a pulse-diagnosis consultation before anything begins, working out your dosha type and tailoring a programme to you personally. We found the consultation genuinely fascinating. The physician explained the concept of doshas clearly and accessibly, and it made every treatment that followed feel purposeful rather than generic.

The full Ayurveda programme includes steam bath, udvartana (powder massage), shirodhara (warm sesame oil poured continuously over the forehead), nasya (nasal treatment), and Abhyanga oil massage. Programmes are available for detox, weight management, and rejuvenation, either as multi-day residential stays or standalone sessions. If you have never experienced shirodhara, it is hard to describe. The oil pools on your forehead and a tingling sensation gradually works its way down through your scalp and neck. It builds slowly into a deep, meditative calm. The powder massage that precedes it has a dry, grainy texture that contrasts beautifully with the preceding steam heat. We came away feeling like we had slept for twelve hours. People who come here for the multi-day programme report leaving in significantly better shape than they arrived, and we believe it. Beyond Ayurveda, the spa has an Oriental hammam, steam bath, two heated indoor pools, an indoor jacuzzi, and treatments using local Gozitan ingredients like sea salt, Gozo clay, Maltese honey, and olive oil. The hammam and indoor pools are especially appealing during the cooler months. The hotel sits in San Lawrenz, a tiny village in the centre of Gozo with no traffic, no beach bars, no noise. Several people we know who have visited comment specifically on the silence and the rural Gozitan setting as part of what makes it work. If you want a retreat that feels like an actual retreat, this is it.

The trade-off: this is a five-star hotel spa and the pricing reflects that. If you are doing the multi-day Ayurveda programme, the dietary component can get a little repetitive. The food is well prepared but similar across days. The hotel cafe can also get busy and a bit understaffed at peak times. 2. Grand Hotel Elemis Spa

Best for: A reliable spa treatment right off the ferry

The Grand Hotel Elemis Spa is the first and only Elemis spa in Gozo, positioned on the hill above Mgarr Harbour at the gateway to the island. If you are arriving by ferry and want a spa within minutes of docking, this is the most convenient option on Gozo. The views over Mgarr Harbour from the hotel are a proper bonus, and the setting alone makes it feel like more than just a hotel spa appointment.

The Elemis product range is a step above what most hotel spas in Malta use, and you can feel the difference in the scrubs and oils. The salt body scrub and wrap combination is what we would recommend first. It feels unhurried, which is exactly how a spa treatment should feel, and your skin comes out genuinely silky afterwards. The BIOTEC facial is also worth considering if you are into results-driven skincare. It uses Elemis bio-electric technology for skin lifting and rejuvenation, and is more clinical than a standard relaxation facial. They also offer body wraps, waxing, manicures, and pedicures if you want to make a full day of it.

The therapists here are a genuine strength. Request Melissa, Marissa, or Christina if any of them are available. We have had consistently excellent experiences when booking a named therapist, and we would always recommend doing so here. Melissa in particular gave us what might be one of the best massages we have had in the Maltese islands. One detail we appreciate: the treatment rooms include an in-room jacuzzi, which is a nice touch for warming up your muscles before a massage. Use it before your treatment, not after.

The spa also has a sauna, infrared sauna, and jacuzzi in the communal area, plus both indoor and outdoor pool access with harbour views. The indoor pool looks fairly new, which is a nice change from some of Malta's older hotel spa facilities. Non-hotel guests are welcome by appointment, with sauna access from around €20 per person or €35 for two. A 90-minute massage runs around €75, which we think is genuinely fair value for Elemis-quality products and the skill level of the therapists. Nobody we know has come away feeling they overpaid. One thing to know: the relaxation room sits near the reception area, so it can get a bit noisy when new arrivals come through. It is a minor point and certainly not a deal breaker, but worth mentioning if post-treatment quiet is important to you.

3. Secret Day Spa

Best for: Couples, or anyone who wants a proper day spa without the hotel markup

Secret Day Spa in Xaghra is the only independent day spa in Gozo, and it has built a strong local reputation since Tracey Mizzi founded it in 2013. It won the Thalgo Excellence Award for Best Spa and Beauty Salon in the Maltese Islands in 2019, which is notable for a small standalone spa competing against every hotel spa on both islands. This is a word-of-mouth place more than a TripAdvisor one, and the fact that it keeps filling up says plenty.

The couples package is the headline offering: 150 minutes for around €160 per couple. That includes exclusive use of a private sauna and jacuzzi, a full-body couples massage side by side, an express radiant facial, and prosecco with chocolates at the end. The private sauna and jacuzzi room only takes one couple at a time, so you genuinely have the space to yourselves. We found the pacing of the whole experience very well judged. Nothing felt rushed, and the prosecco and chocolates at the end give it a specific, memorable endpoint rather than just being shown to the door.

Secret Day Spa specialises in Thalgo facials, which are worth booking if your skin needs attention after a week of Maltese sun and sea salt. They also offer outdoor massages in season, which is something none of the hotel spas on Gozo do. If you can time your visit for a warm day and get a massage outside, it really is something special. The Xaghra location is quiet and residential, a long way from the bustle of Mgarr harbour or the Victoria town centre. It feels genuinely private rather than a hotel annex.

Opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am to 7pm and Saturday 9am to 5pm. They are closed on Sundays, which is worth planning around if you are only in Gozo for a weekend. Book in advance for the couples room as it can only accommodate one couple at a time. Keep an eye on local deal sites too, as promotions occasionally appear.

4. Stress Free Center

Best for: Float therapy and something completely different

The Stress Free Center in Victoria is Gozo's only float therapy venue and one of the few in all of Malta. If you have never tried floating, this is a great place to start. The float tank contains roughly 500kg of Epsom salt in body-temperature water (around 34 to 35 degrees). Once the pod closes you are in complete darkness and silence. After a few minutes the boundary between your body and the water becomes genuinely unclear. You are not swimming or treading water. The salt concentration means you float without any effort at all. It sounds strange, but the effect is remarkable. We came out feeling like the volume on everything had been turned down by half.

The centre is exceptionally clean, which matters for something as intimate as a float tank, and the staff are professional without being clinical. Beyond the float tank, they run Swedish and relaxation massage, organic anti-ageing facials, holistic body treatments, and regular yoga classes. There is also an on-site Tea Temple serving teas, fresh kombucha, homemade lemonade, and local plant-based food, which makes for a genuinely nice way to ease back into the real world after floating. We sat in the Tea Temple for about half an hour afterwards and it extended the whole experience in exactly the right way.

The Victoria location on Triq Santa Marta in the centre of Gozo means it is accessible from anywhere on the island without a long drive. The centre is open Tuesday to Saturday with varying hours. Tuesday and Friday open at 1pm, while Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday open at 10:30am, all closing at 6pm. Sunday is by appointment only, and they are closed on Mondays. Float sessions are reasonably priced for what is still a niche treatment.

A few things to keep in mind: avoid caffeine before you go, and do not shave or wax within 24 hours of your session. The Epsom salt will sting on broken skin. Which Spa Is Right for You?

If you want the most complete wellness experience in Gozo, or if Ayurveda is specifically what you are after: Kempinski. Nothing else on either island comes close for physician-led, personalised programmes. Give yourself at least two days to feel the cumulative effect. One-off treatments are available, but the multi-day programmes are where this spa really shows what it can do.

If you want a quality spa treatment without the five-star commitment: Grand Hotel Elemis Spa. Great therapists, genuinely good Elemis products, and you can walk there from the ferry terminal in Mgarr. At around €75 for a 90-minute massage, the value is hard to argue with.

If you are visiting as a couple and want something intimate: Secret Day Spa in Xaghra. The private sauna and jacuzzi room, the prosecco at the end, the village-quiet setting. It is designed for exactly this, and the around €160 per couple price point feels very reasonable for 150 minutes of private access.

If you want something genuinely different: Stress Free Center. Float therapy is unlike any other spa treatment, and the Tea Temple afterwards makes the whole thing feel like a proper reset. Worth trying even if you have never considered float therapy before.

A practical note on getting to Gozo: the ferry from Cirkewwa takes about 25 minutes to Mgarr, and ferries run frequently throughout the day. A single adult ticket costs around €7.50. If you are combining a spa visit with a day trip, we would suggest the Grand Hotel (closest to the ferry) or booking a full day at the Kempinski (worth the journey to San Lawrenz).
