Quick Answer
The best gyms in Malta depend on where you are and how you train. In Sliema, Fort Fitness has 2,000 sqm of serious equipment and a boxing ring. In St Julian's, Cynergi offers a full health club with pool, sauna, and Turkish bath from around €70/month. For CrossFit and HYROX, CrossFit F15 in Msida is the official HYROX Malta venue. Best Gyms Malta (BGM) operates eight locations island-wide on a single All Access membership from around €50-65/month.
Malta has more quality gyms per square kilometre than most people expect. The challenge is not finding one. It is finding the right one for where you are staying, how you like to train, and what you are willing to pay. We have trained at all of these, and this is what we actually think. For broader context on fitness alongside Malta's wider wellness scene, see our complete wellness guide for 2026.
If your question is mostly about cost — what budget, mid-range, and premium gyms charge per month, day, and week — start with our full gym pricing breakdown for Malta. The piece below ranks gyms by area and training style; the pricing breakdown ranks them by tier.
Sliema
Sliema is Malta's most popular area for expats, digital nomads, and tourists, and the gym scene reflects that. You have more options here than anywhere else on the island.
Fort Fitness
Best for: Serious lifters who want proper equipment variety
Fort Fitness at Tigne Point is one of the biggest gyms in Malta and it feels like it. Over 140 machines across 2,000 square metres, a three-lane indoor running track, a full boxing ring, and dedicated strongman kit. If you are used to a large city gym in London or Berlin, this is the closest thing Malta has to offer.
The equipment range is the real strength here. Bodybuilding, powerlifting, calisthenics, functional training, strongman, boxing. Whatever your training style, Fort Fitness has the kit. Azure Wellness is on site for recovery treatments, and there is a physiotherapist clinic if you need it.
A word of honesty: peak hours between 5:30pm and 7:30pm are genuinely crowded, to the point where finding a free machine takes patience. There is no air conditioning either, which in July and August is noticeable. Go at 7am or midday and it is a completely different experience. The Tigne Point location means parking is included, which is a genuine win in Sliema.
Day passes are around €10 and weekly passes around €35, making it one of the more tourist-friendly options. Monthly memberships sit around €55-65 — see how this compares across Malta's gym tiers before committing.
Malta Fight Co.
Best for: Anyone interested in combat sports, from complete beginners to competitive fighters
Malta Fight Co. is probably the best combat sports academy on the island. Boxing, Muay Thai, K1 kickboxing, BJJ, and MMA, all under one roof with coaches who genuinely know what they are doing. The facility sits on the first floor of the Sliema Wanderers FC Sports Complex, which is not the most glamorous entrance, but once you are inside the quality speaks for itself.
Coach Jay for boxing and Professor Sergio for BJJ (3rd Degree Black Belt under Murilo Bustamante) are the names that keep coming up in reviews. About 20 classes run per week, the mats are kept clean, and the room is air-conditioned, which matters more than you would think during a Maltese summer.
The community here is what sets it apart from having a boxing bag in a regular gym corner. Everyone we spoke to mentioned feeling welcomed regardless of experience level. If you have never thrown a punch before, that is fine. If you are prepping for competition, they have programmes for that too. Youth programmes run during summer for ages 7-17.
Pricing is fair for the class volume. Expect to pay in the €70-100 range for unlimited monthly access.

Best Gyms Malta (BGM) Sliema
Best for: People who want a straightforward gym with multi-location access
BGM Sliema is one of eight locations in the Best Gyms Malta network. The concept is simple: one All Access membership, eight gyms across the island. If you live in Sliema but work elsewhere, or if you just like variety, this is the practical choice.
The Sliema branch includes a combat studio with mats for boxing and martial arts, alongside the standard cardio and strength setup. Equipment is solid without being remarkable. It is a clean, functional gym that does exactly what it says.
All Access membership runs around €50-65/month, which is competitive given you can walk into any of their eight locations.

St Julian's
Cynergi Health & Fitness Club
Best for: Anyone who wants gym, pool, and spa facilities under one roof
Cynergi is less a gym and more a health club, and we mean that in the best way. The facility spans roughly 2,500 square metres at St George's Bay and includes a full gym floor with Technogym equipment, an indoor swimming pool, sauna, Turkish bath, and squash courts. All of this comes included in the standard membership.
The pool-to-price ratio is what makes Cynergi stand out. If you swim regularly, there is really nothing else in the St Julian's area that competes at this level. Over 40 group classes run per week, and they are all included. Iryna's stretching class was specifically recommended to us by a member. The facilities are spotlessly maintained, and free parking is included, which in St Julian's is worth more than most people realise.
The honest caveat: personal training upselling can feel pushy at times. The facility itself is excellent, but the sales approach has rubbed some members the wrong way. Our suggestion is to know what you want before you walk in and you will have a great experience.
Memberships sit around €70-90/month, with off-peak options closer to €60. Day passes are €16 and weekly passes around €37. Cynergi opens at 5am on weekdays, which is appreciated by the early-morning crowd. Free gym membership is available for 18-20 year olds under the government scheme.
Msida and Gzira
The university area has a strong fitness scene, partly driven by the student population and partly by the handful of serious training facilities that have set up here.
CrossFit F15
Best for: CrossFit, HYROX race preparation, and anyone who wants coached group training
CrossFit F15 is the official HYROX Malta training venue, and that alone makes it the default destination for anyone preparing for a HYROX race. But it is also one of the strongest CrossFit boxes in Malta in its own right. The coaching team, led by Victor along with Geri and Lazar, gets consistently excellent feedback for being knowledgeable and safety-focused without being overbearing.
The facility covers over 400 square metres with two training rooms near the University of Malta campus. The class programme is one of the widest on the island: CrossFit, HYROX prep, weightlifting, gymnastics, functional strength, stamina, and mobility sessions. Classes are deliberately kept small enough that you actually get coached rather than just counting reps in a crowd.
The community is the reason people stay. We heard the same thing from multiple members: you join for the training, you stay because of the people. Saturday morning sessions have a particular social energy to them. F15 offers a 15-day introductory programme for €19, which is a low-risk way to see if the format clicks for you.
Monthly membership sits in the €70-130 range depending on the plan. Worth every cent if you actually show up. For how CrossFit pricing compares to standard gym memberships in Malta, see our Malta gym membership cost guide.
My Personal Trainer Malta
Best for: People who want combined personal training and nutrition coaching
This is not a gym in the traditional sense. My Personal Trainer Malta operates out of the Tal-Qroqq Fitness Centre in Gzira and offers one-to-one training paired with dietitian-led nutrition planning. The team is led by Miriam Saliba, a state-registered dietitian and fitness coach, alongside Marvic Debono as certified personal trainer.
What makes this worth mentioning is the integration. Most gyms in Malta will sell you a PT package and leave nutrition as an afterthought. Here, the two are built into the same service from the start. The approach is focused on long-term lifestyle change rather than 12-week transformations. Training can be done at the gym or adapted for home workouts.
Centrally located in Gzira with easy access from Sliema, Msida, and the university area.

Central Malta
CrossFit Tripod
Best for: CrossFit with outdoor training elements and easier parking than the coast
CrossFit Tripod operates out of the National Basketball Complex in Ta' Qali, which gives it something most coastal gyms lack: space and parking. The facility runs two training areas, a main floor for CrossFit and SWEAT45 sessions and a specialist room for HYROX, gymnastics, and weightlifting in smaller groups.
The weightlifting programme deserves a specific mention. It is coached by Vlad Baldacchino and Owen Camilleri from Squad Weightlifting, which means proper Olympic lifting technique work, not just CrossFit-adjacent barbell classes. SWEAT45 is their 45-minute cardio-focused session and is one of the more popular classes for members who want intensity without the full CrossFit learning curve.
Tripod also runs a Kids Fitness programme and Savage Sundays for members who want competition-style training. The community is growing and the coaches are well-qualified. It is a newer box compared to CrossFit F15 and CrossFit 356, so there is less internet noise about it, but the people training there seem to be in no rush to leave.
Open seven days a week with recovery room, showers, and changing facilities on site.

Best Gyms Malta (BGM) Network
Best for: Residents who need gym access across multiple parts of Malta
BGM's island-wide approach is worth repeating here because their central Malta locations in Mosta, Birkirkara, and the newer Marsa facility serve a different crowd to the Sliema and St Julian's gyms.
BGM Marsa is the newest location and sits in Malta's sports district. It has two studio areas and is positioned as the network's most complete facility. Mosta and Birkirkara serve their local communities reliably. Kirkop covers the south. Pembroke and Tal-Qroqq round out the network.
The All Access membership means you are never more than about 15 minutes from a BGM gym. For someone who commutes across the island or simply does not want to be tied to one location, this is the most practical gym setup in Malta. Group classes and spinning are included, and the equipment covers cardio and strength well. Over 10,000 members currently train across the network.
Monthly pricing: around €50-65 for All Access. Single-location memberships are available at a lower price.

More Gyms in Malta Worth Knowing
The gyms above are our picks for serious training, but Malta has more options if your needs are different. Here is a quick orientation to the rest of the scene.
Budget options. 24/7 Fitness Club has five locations across Malta (Ta' Qali, Mellieha, San Gwann, St Paul's Bay, and Santa Lucia) and is the only chain on the island with genuine round-the-clock access. Memberships start around €25-35/month. Bodyflex sits at a similar price point and has the cheapest day pass we have found in Malta at around €5. Lion's Den in Birkirkara offers a no-frills strength-focused setup for around €30/month.
Hotel and premium clubs. The Hilton Malta Spa & Fitness Centre in St Julian's is the highest-end option on the island, with a sea-view pool and top-tier equipment for around €90/month. Sky Spirit Fitness Lounge offers a polished boutique experience with 12-month plans dropping the effective monthly rate to around €50. Both are worth considering if facility quality matters more to you than price.
Mid-range alternatives. The Gym in Msida sits at around €45-55/month and uniquely includes sauna and steam room access in its standard membership. Energie Fitness in Sliema covers the basics at around €30/month for anyone who wants a nearby gym without paying for amenities they will not use.
For a full tier-by-tier price breakdown across these and the gyms covered above, see our gym membership cost guide for Malta.

- Where are the best gyms located in Malta?
- Malta's best gyms cluster around four areas. Sliema has Fort Fitness (2,000 sqm at Tigne Point), Malta Fight Co., and BGM Sliema. St Julian's is anchored by Cynergi Health & Fitness Club at St George's Bay. The Msida and Gzira university area has CrossFit F15 (the official HYROX Malta venue) and My Personal Trainer Malta in Gzira. Central Malta covers CrossFit Tripod in Ta' Qali plus BGM locations in Mosta, Birkirkara, and Marsa. The Best Gyms Malta network operates eight branches island-wide on a single All Access membership, including a location at the Neptunes sports complex in Balluta Bay. With Malta's small footprint, no resident is more than 15-20 minutes from a serious gym.
- What is the best gym in Sliema?
- Fort Fitness at Tigne Point is the largest gym in Sliema at 2,000 square metres with over 140 machines, a three-lane indoor running track, and a full boxing ring. It opens at 5am on weekdays and offers day passes at around €10 and weekly passes at around €35. Other strong Sliema options include Malta Fight Co. at the Sliema Wanderers Sports Complex for boxing, Muay Thai, BJJ and MMA, BGM Sliema as part of the eight-location Best Gyms Malta All Access network from around €50-65/month, and Energie Fitness in central Sliema as a budget option at around €30/month.
- Are there 24-hour gyms in Malta?
- 24/7 Fitness Club is the only chain in Malta with genuine round-the-clock access. It has five locations including Ta' Qali, Mellieha, San Gwann, St Paul's Bay, and Santa Lucia. The 2,000 square metre facility includes dedicated powerlifting, strongman, and functional training areas, over 140 machines, and a wide range of free weights. Personal trainers and competitive bodybuilders tend to train there. The trade-off is that peak hours between 5:30pm and 7:30pm get genuinely crowded, and there is no air conditioning, which is worth knowing during Malta's summer months. Mid-morning or early afternoon sessions are much quieter.
- Is there a good gym in Mosta or central Malta?
- Central Malta has two strong options. CrossFit Tripod operates from the National Basketball Complex in Ta' Qali, offering CrossFit, weightlifting (coached by Vlad Baldacchino and Owen Camilleri from Squad Weightlifting), HYROX preparation, and SWEAT45 cardio classes. The Ta' Qali location gives it space and parking that coastal gyms cannot match. For general fitness, Best Gyms Malta operates branches in Mosta and Birkirkara on the All Access network, plus a newer flagship at BGM Marsa. Cynergi Mosta is also part of the Cynergi group (sometimes searched as Cynergy) and offers similar facilities to the St George's Bay branch.
